Former Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly believes England will not win Euro 2012 if they continue to perform like they did in their 1-1 draw against France in the remainder of the tournament.
The 43-year-old was highly critical of England’s defensive style, as Roy Hodgson’s side were camped in their own half for large sections of the game as the French struggled to break them down.
Desailly, who won the World Cup in 1998 and the European Championship in 2000 during his time playing for Les Bleus, said he was surprised by the lack of pressure from the Three Lions.
"I was not expecting at all an English team to be so feeble physically," he told Le Parisien.
"They made no impact and were incapable of pressing their opponents.
"In my opinion they will not win the European Championship, that is for certain, even if they succeeded in limiting the damage in this [France] match."
The Ghana-born Desailly then went further to dismiss England, claiming the French will face far tougher games in the coming weeks, with Ukraine up next for Laurent Blanc’s side on Friday.
"This was not a test for the French," retired defender proclaimed. "They cannot really make a judgement of their overall performance in this type of match, they can only say there are some things to correct.
"However, it wasn't a test of a very high level neither in the pressing nor the intensity."
