Radamel Falcao has reiterated that he has no intention of leaving Atletico Madrid after inspiring the club to a Europa League triumph which he believes to be the perfect riposte to those who questioned the wisdom of his move to the Vicente Calderon.

The Colombia international elected to join the Rojiblancos last summer after winning the same tournament with former club Porto.

Some pundits suggested at the time that Falcao should have spurned Atletico's advances in favour of a move to a 'bigger' European club, but he now feels vindicated after helping Diego Simeone's side record a 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao in Bucharest on Wednesday night with a sublime first-half double.

"When I moved to Atletico many people said I was making a mistake, so I've waited for this moment to tell them that the mistake was all theirs for saying that," the striker is quoted as saying by Uefa.com.

"I have a four-year contract with Atletico and am only thinking about next season."

Falcao then admitted that he found it difficult to adequately express his emotions after winning the Europa League for the second successive season.

"I can't do justice to just how happy I am," he confessed. "But I owe it to the team; they helped me a lot.

"It's a dream come true. I'm just speechless, unable to describe all this: to have won the Europa League with two different clubs, and above all to be the top scorer two years running."

Falcao netted 17 times during Porto's triumphant 2010-11 campaign, and his double against Athletic in Romania took his tally for this season to 12 in the tournament.
