FAILURE IN LONDON NOT LACK OF PHYSICAL OR MENTAL STRENGTH BUT TACTICAL - RIDERS

LONDON, July 30 (Bernama) -- National cyclist Muhamad Adiq Husainie Othman

and Amir Mustafa Rusli admitted that their failure in the Olympic men''s 250km

road race on Saturday was due to a tactical mistake and not because they lacked

physical or mental strength.

Both Muhamad Adiq Husainie and Amir Mustafa who were 18 minutes behind the

leading pack, were stopped from continuing the race about 50km before the

finishing line.

"In terms of tactical, it was difficult for both of us to plan any strategy

because there was not enough support compared with other teams which had five

riders.

"Maybe it was our fault to be too relaxed at the mountain climb zone," said

Muhamad Adiq who leaves to the United States to compete in the Race of Utah with

his Champion System Club that is based in Belgium.

He said since January, he had competed in many circuits in Europe and the

United States before heading to London.

"Other teams had five riders who qualified on merit while Malaysia were

given a chance to field two riders based on the country quota. The problem was

that we were only two of us while other teams had five riders to plan their

strategy," he said.
