DAYS OF SORROW: Kin of MH370 passengers pray wreckage will be found soon

FAMILIES of MH370 passengers are hopeful and are praying that wreckage of the plane is found, to bring a closure to the tragedy.

Persatuan Anak Pahang di Ibu Kota (Pekap) deputy president Datuk Mustaffa Mat Yasin said a yassin recitation ceremony was held at the Everly Hotel lobby yesterday, which saw the participation of three Muslim families.

Family members of Freescale Semiconductor senior engineer Suhaili Mustafa, Mohd Razahan Zamani, who went for a honeymoon with his wife, Norli Akmar Hamid, and aviation engineer Mohamad Khairul Amri Selamat, 29, joined in the yassin recital.

"We prayed and asked God to help the authorities locate the wreckage, passengers and crew onboard MH370," said Mustaffa.

In Tampin, father of MH370 passenger Chan Huan Peen, 46, still hoped for his son's return.

"As long as there is no photographic evidence, I will continue believing in miracles, despite it being difficult to do so at this time," said Chan Fui Lee, 76, adding that he was ready to accept the demise of his son but not until given conclusive proof.

"It is tough. But, if it is meant to end this way, then I accept God's decision," said Fui Lee.

Describing his son as a caring individual, he has not stopped crying since March 8 and that eating and sleeping had become tedious.

"Everything became redundant since that day. We were glued to the television and radio most of the time to get developments."

Huan Peen was an engineer for electronics product supplier Freescale Semiconductor.

"The last time I saw him was when he came to see me, bringing his wife and kids. That was the last time we saw our son."

In Bangi, the next of kin of flight MH370 passengers were showing signs of mental fatigue and restlessness after being housed in hotels for over two weeks while awaiting news of their loved ones.

Yesterday, family members of Chinese passengers housed at Hotel Bangi-Putrajaya were stopped several times by Malaysia Airlines (MAS) staff from leaving the premises.

Despite the tight security, several family members managed to walk through the main entrance before being brought back to the hotel lobby.

Much of their time had been spent a the hotel, with many seen hanging around the lobby with members of volunteer group Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation Malaysia, who were acting as caregivers.

The scene here yesterday appeared calmer in contrast to Monday evening, which saw many family members left grief-stricken by the news.
