KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 — Felda settlers head Shamsuddin Othman has given Tan Sri Isa Samad 14 days to apologise for allegedly insulting him at a briefing in Kuala Pilah earlier this month.
Shamsuddin, who heads the Settlers Negotiation Committee (JKPP), said the Felda chairman should not have called him a “liar”, “hypocrite” and claimed “if he (Shamsuddin) were a small boy, I’d have slapped him”.
“This is the first time a Felda chairman has insulted a settlers head... I think all settlers were insulted by Tan Sri Isa’s statement,” he told reporters today.
A video recording of Isa’s briefing was also screened at the press conference, attended by nine vice-chairmen of the Federal Territories Settlers Negotiation Committee and the Women’s Association Movement.
Isa was also alleged to have said that Shamsuddin (picture), also known as Pas Sam, did not understand Felda Global Ventures’ planned listing despite being briefed many times.
Shamsuddin, 59, from the Johor Baru Felda, said he had known about Isa’s November 12 remarks in Kuala Pilah but decided to give the Felda chairman a chance to explain himself.
“I didn’t take any action. I didn’t contact him... I only hoped he would contact me and apologise. I was hoping he knew his mistake and what he should do but until now he hasn’t done it.
“So I’m forced to take this action and inform the media. I want him to apologise in 14 days (in five local newspapers)... I feel insulted and hard done by,” he said.
Shamsuddin, who will appoint a lawyer soon, added he would consider his next course of action if Isa fails to apologise by the end of that period.
