FIRE DAMAGES KANGAR WHOLESALE MARKET

KANGAR, May 18 (Bernama) -- A fire badly damaged the main building of the

Kangar wholesale market early today.

No one was reported injured in the blaze which occurred at about 4 am, said

a spokesman of the Perlis Fire & Rescue Department.

The main building houses 12 of the 25 traders at the market, which has been

in operation for more than 20 years.

Firemen from the fire & rescue stations in Kangar, Kuala Perlis and Arau,

assisted by volunteer fire-fighters from Pauh, Kodiang, Kuala Perlis and Simpang

Empat brought the fire under control in 30 minutes.

The spokesman said the cause of the fire had yet to be established and the

extent of damage was being assessed.
