KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 30 (Bernama) - Fire destroyed the House of Joy orphanage
occupied by 33 orphans in Taman Tenaga near Puchong this morning.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department acting assistant director Anuar harun
said the incident at 10.50am destroyed the entire top floor of the house while
the ground floor was 60 percent destroyed.
"Firemen from Puchong Jaya station arrived at the scene at 10.59am and found
that 20 children had been rescued form the house," he told reporters here today.
Anuar said three engines from Subang Jaya and Petaling Jaya fire stations
with 27 men and a forensic team from Petaling were also at the scene.
The orphans aged between 6 to 17 years will be temporarily placed at
Subang Jaya Municipal Council Multipurpose Hall in Puchong.
The cause of the fire and losses are still being investigated.

Orphanage caretaker Moses Chart, 68, said he only realised the fire after
smelling smoke and saw that the top floor was already ablaze.
"Luckily, the children were watching television on the ground floor. The
fire spread quickly as the top floor was made of wood," he said.
Meanwhile, House of Joy head Lesly Mah, 55, appealed memb ers of the public
to donate to the orphange by calling him at 019-3392847.
