"The Flowers Of War" to release in U.S.

23 Jan – Renowned Chinese director Zhang Yimou has done it again with his latest historical war drama titled "The Flowers Of War" to see release in more than 20 cinemas in 12 states in the United States following its nomination in the recent Golden Globes.

Audiences from Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Sacramento, Chicago, Houston, Boston, Philadelphia, Seattle, Washington, Atlanta and Honolulu will get the chance to watch the 145-minute film starting from 20 January 2012 onwards.

Despite the controversy surrounding Zhang's film, critics were impressed by the film's visuals and audio, with especial praises for the inspiring storyline that dealt with the subject matter of the war itself and its effort in promoting peace.

As a result, "The Flowers Of War" became nominated in this year's Golden Globes for the Best Foreign Language Film category alongside Angelina Jolie's directorial "In The Land Of Blood And Honey", Belgium's "The Kid Of A Bike", Antonio Banderas's "The Skin I Live In" and the eventual winner, Iran's "A Separation".

Alongside Oscar-winner Christian Bale stars Chinese newcomers Ni Ni, Zhang Xinyi, Tong Dawei and Japanese actor Atsuro Watanabe in this film based on Geling Yan's novel "The 13 Women Of Nanjing". Christian Bale plays John Miller, an American mortician who posed as a priest in order to protect a group of women from the Japanese soldiers during the Japanese army's invasion of Nanjing, China.
