SEPANG: Former national cyclist turned businessman Sayuti Zahit edged Arus Cycling TeamÂ's Shawal Shaffee to bag victory in the Folding Bike Jamboree 2012 menÂ's open final at the Sepang International Go-Kart Circuit recently.
Sayuti, 26, pipped Shawal in a nail-biting finish to end a dramatic race, which saw the countryÂ's first-ever folding bike race winner Azhar Zulaily crash after three laps of the final to finish fourth, behind Azrul Hafidz Awang, elder brother of national track cycling star Azizulhasni.
The event, held in conjunction with a go-green campaign promoted by Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana), was the first in a string of events planned for folding bike enthusiasts this year.
Bike Trading Sdn Bhd managing director and organiser Well Tan said the number of participants was encouraging and many had showed interest for the sport.
“This is the first time our company is organising such an event and it has attracted 46 entries,” Tan said.
The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) and Kuala Lumpur Cycling Association (KLCA) provided technical support during the event and also showed their eagerness to encourage more such events.
The womenÂ's section saw ChÂ'ng Kai Nee sweeping both the 100m sprint and the womenÂ's open final race championship.
