Former Law & Order, Broadway Star Jesse L. Martin Heading To Smash

Former "Law & Order" star Jesse L. Martin has been cast in what may be the perfect role for the multi-talented actor - he's heading to "Smash."

Martin, a member of the Tony Award-winning original cast of "Rent" on Broadway, will bring his musical theater skills to TV on the NBC hit during a six-episode arc, the network announced on Friday.

The actor will play Scott Welker (artistic director of the Manhattan Theatre Workshop) on the series and his storyline will bring him in contact with nearly all of the "Smash" cast.

Audiences can also expect to hear Martin sing a few tunes during his run on the show.

"Smash" will be adding a slew of famous guest star for Season 2, including former "Will & Grace" star Sean Hayes, "Grey's Anatomy's" Daniel Sunjata, and Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson.

"Smash" Season 2 will premiere in 2013 on NBC.
