KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 (Bernama) -- Former MIC vice-president Tan Sri K.Kumaran
is setting up a club for party veterans to support the initiatives taken by the
MIC president to win back the support of the Indian community.
The Veterans'' Club, comprising former MIC members and state assemblymen,
would also help Barisan Nasional in its campaign during the 13th general
election, he said.
"The formation of the MIC Veterans’ Club is long overdue. I will be meeting
party president Datuk Seri G.Palanivel soon to finalise details and to seek his
views and input on this matter," he said when contacted today.
"I will also be calling for a meeting of former MIC leaders who would be
potential members to kick-start the formation of this club. So far, there has
been widespread support for this club," said Kumaran, who is also the MIC''s
permanent speaker.
Kumaran is a former Perak MIC chairman and former deputy minister.
Elaborating on the role of the new club, he said: "This Veterans'' Club will
play a mediating role between the current and past leaders if and when
necessary, in addition to providing some guidance and advice during any
political crisis and other related matters."
The club, Kumaran added, would also formulate plans and provide ideas for
MIC''s future growth and progress.
