France captain Hugo Lloris has labelled the 2-0 win over Ukraine as 'important for our confidence', as Les Bleus moved to the top of Group D on Friday.
The French team were made to wait for an hour to re-start their match against the Euro 2012 co-hosts after torrential rainfall rendered the surface at the Donbass Arena unplayable, and the threat of a lightning strike from the accompanying electrical storm put the players' safety at risk.
Nevertheless, after play resumed, Laurent Blanc's men ultimately secured victory thanks to goals from Jeremy Menez and Yohan Cabaye, to send them top of their group.
Lloris remained grounded after the victory, but expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance against Oleg Blokhin's men.
"It was important for us to get into this competition. We had a very positive introduction with a good draw against England," the Lyon goalkeeper told RMC Sport.
"It was important for our confidence. We learned to let go, take risks, and everyone had fun."
