GE to Deliver Tank Cars Adhering to Safety Appliance Norms

GE Capital, Rail Services, a part of General Electric Company (GE), recently announced that it will deliver 875 tank cars to its customers that adhere by the latest 2015 safety appliance standards. All railcars manufactured after Jan 2015 will be required to meet this new standard.

In Feb 2014, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) adopted the Association of American Railroads (:AAR) Safety Appliance Standard S-2044. Latest safety standards are essential for the safe and efficient movement of trains and execution of railroad employee duties. Recognising the importance of compliant tank cars for the railroad industry, GE Capital is one of the first lessors to offer them. The new safety appliance standard includes improvements to handholds, ladder treads, sill steps and running boards used by railroad personnel during operations. These new standards are likely to address worker safety concerns by providing more natural and stable positions for personnel.
