GTLSB-UTM SIGN COLLABORATION AGREEMENT TO DEVELOP FOURTH GENERATION LED

JOHOR BAHARU, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- Greentech LED Lighting Sdn Bhd (GTLSB) and

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia''s (UTM) Innovation and Commercialisation Centre

(ICC), today signed a collaboration agreement to develop the use of Light

Emitting Diodes (LED) in the country.

The collaboration which will lead to research to further diversify the LED

products, will benefit Malaysians not just from the aspect of energy savings,

but also avoid environmental pollution caused by the use of conventional

    lighting.

GTLSB executive chairman Datuk Syed Elias Syed Ahmad said research and

development for the product is an important element in meeting local needs and

    gaining the consumer confidence.

As an example he said, the application of solar products being researched by

UTM, can be matched with the LED products which can then be installed in the

interior of rural areas, which have still to receive electricity supply.

GTLSB had previously entered into a smart partnership with manfacturers from

China and Taiwan for the production of fourth generation LED''s which lasts

longer and ensures cost savings while easy to maintain.

The new generation LED has a "smart driver" which has been patented, for

high powered lighting, with a special temperature control using the latest LED

chip, that is the "multiple chips on board".

Among others, the LED can be used for the manufacture of street lighting,

floodlights, spotlight and tubelight of various sizes and according to the needs

    of consumers.

GTLSB also desires to elect UTM as its consultant for the installation of

its LED products in the country.

UTM ICC director Prof Ir Dr. Azhar Datuk Abdul Aziz said the university

welcomed the cooperation as not many companies desired to work with local

Institutions of Higher Learning to pioneer new technology.

He said the institutions, especially public institutions such as UTM, had

sufficient infrastructure to assist companies undertake research and development

and pioneer new technology, to expand their products.

GTLSB was represented by its director Syed Fadhley Shah Datuk Syed Elias at

the signing and Azhar for UTM.--BERNAMA
