Guan Eng aims to spoil BN's CNY bash, says DPM

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has accused the Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng of seeking to disrupt Penang BN's Chinese New Year open house event by urging participants to wear red, yellow and green.

Muhyiddin ( left ) said the event, slated for Feb 11 and to feature South Korean pop superstar Psy, was supposed to be a happy celebration to promote unity.

"But it seems like Lim Guan Eng wants to play politics only," said Muhyiddin at a press conference in Penang today. "He should respect our programme, and not create trouble."

"I am sure the BN won't be disturbing their events Normal 0 false false false EN-MY ZH-CN X-NONE or asking people to wear black or blue. This looks like a stupid thing to do. He thinks he is smart, but he's actually not."

Normal 0 false false false EN-MY ZH-CN X-NONE He questioned why Lim wanted to create trouble on such celebrations, adding that he was probably "insincere" in asking people to attend the BN Chinese New Year event.

"I remember, Lim has come to our events, but did not ask people to wear green, red or yellow. Why he is doing it now? To create an tense situation? If people are angry, this is not a good situation," Muhyiddin said.

'Lim should appreciate these situations'

"If he is truly a state leader, he should appreciate situations like this. This is our right. You have your rights. You can organise your DAP Chinese New Year programme, I don't think Gerakan or MCA or Umno is going to disturb," he added.

Muhyiddin urged Lim ( left ) to allow the event to go on smoothly, and criticised him for thinking that he "owns" every situation, asking "then what is the meaning of CAT (competency, accountabilty and transparency)?"

Lim had urged Penangites to attend the BN open house wearing the colours for causes that Pakatan Rakyat supports.

He said red symbolised change, while yellow symbolised the Bersih movement for clean and fair elections and green symbolised the growing environmental protection movement, Himpunan Hijau.
