LONDON, July 30 (Bernama) -- National archer Haziq Kamaruddin continued his
dismal performance, losing out just a point to Gankin Denis of Kazakhstan in the
men''s individual first round elimination of the 2012 Olympics, here, today.
In the competition held at Lord''s Cricket Ground, the Malaysian collected
134 points, one point behind his rival who garnered 135.
Haziq collected 29, 27, 27, 27 and 25 points while Gankin scored 27, 28, 28,
25 and 26 points, in the five-end competition.
"I''m really disappointed as we''re only separated by one point. If only I was
more composed, I should have beaten him and move to the second round," Haziq
told reporters after the competition, here, today.
The 19-year-old lanky archer from Skudai, Johor said he needed more exposure
at the international level in order to better his performance.

National Archery Association of Malaysia president Tan Sri Abdul Khalil
Abd Mutalib said Malaysia would have a better chance in the men''s individual
event through Cheng Chu Sian and Khairul Anuar Mohamad.
"Both of them were more composed compared to Haziq. Chu Sian is an
experienced archer as this is his second Olympics after Beijing in 2008 while
Khairul won a bronze medal at the Olympic test match here (same venue).
Chu Sian will start his challenge in the men''s individual competition
tomorrow morning while woman archer, Nurul Syafiqah Hashim in the women''s
individual event, in the evening.
Early this week, Chu Sian, Khairul Anuar and Haziq were shown the exit in
the first elimination round of the men''s recurve team competition by the Mexican
team.
