KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- The Sri Sakthi Vinayagar temple in
Brickfields will perform prayers in conjunction with the Vinayagar Sathurthi
festival on Thursday, one of the major religious events for Hindus worldwide.
In a statement here today, temple president S. K. K. Naidu said about 5,000
people were expected to join in the festival.
He said prayer programmes would be held from 3am, followed by the main pooja
at 7am, before lunch is served for 4,000 people at noon.
The chariot procession would begin at 7pm, along the roads in Brickfields,
Naidu said there would be street performances, drum beats, fire dances
and people offering free food to the public.
The Vinayagar Sathurthi is one of the biggest festivals celebrated by Hindus
worldwide to mark the birthday of Ganesha who is widely worshipped as the god of
wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.
