1 Oct – Both local and international media went on a rampage with Hong Kong tycoon and former playboy, Cecil Chao's recent outrageous offer - to pay HKD 500 million (app. USD 65 million) to any man who is able to marry his daughter, Gigi Chao.
According to Daily Mail website, in a statement made last week, the 76-year-old Chao said, "I will set aside HKD 500 million for anybody who can find me a son-in-law. I hope that my daughter will have a good partner". He even stated that he won't care whether his future son-in-law is poor or wealthy, prompting more than 100 applicants to respond.
The "marriage" bounty came after his daughter, Gigi Chao (33) made an announcement last week that she had married her same-sex partner, Sean Yeung in France last April – a decision that was not acceptable to Chao and in which the tycoon strictly denies.
The Chairman of Cheuk Nang Holdings Limited was reportedly saying, "I had a lengthy discussion with Gigi and I believe she is not a lesbian and doesn't have this tendency."
Chao also believed that despite Gigi and Sean's seven year relationship, her daughter is destined to marry a man and that the relationship is just a temporary stage in her life.
Meanwhile, Gigi Chao explained that even though Chao did not give his blessing towards her union with Sean, she still loved her father.
