Honda recalls Accords over fire risk

Honda's US arm on Monday announced a recall of 572,000 mid-size Accords at risk of catching fire due to faulty power steering hoses.

The recall, which follows a similar move in May involving 53,000 Acuras, Honda's luxury brand, applies to Accords with V6 engines and model years between 2003 and 2007.

"Over time, exposure to high under-hood and power steering fluid temperatures may cause the power steering hose to deteriorate and develop a fluid leak," American Honda said in a statement.

"Leaking power steering fluid could lead to loss of power steering assistance or, if it leaks onto a catalytic converter, it may result in smoke, or in the worst case, fire. No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this issue, but one engine fire has been reported."

Owners can have their cars repaired for free at Honda dealers.
