HUSBANDS' SALARY TO GO INTO WIVES' BANK ACCOUNT IN GORONTALO, CELEBES

JAKARTA, Feb 8 (Bernama) -- Following frequent complaints from wives of

public servants of not knowing their husbands'' salary and allowances, the

provincial government of Gorontalo in north Celebes is introducing a new policy

on salary payment for its staff.

From next month, all the salary and allowances of married public servants in

the province will be transferred into their respective wives'' bank account.

Gorontalo Governor Rusli Habibie said other than responding to the wives''

complaints, the new ruling would enable the wives to be actively involved in

deciding how the money should be spent on the family''s needs.

The Gorontalo provincial government is now collecting data on its married

officers and upon the completion of this exercise, their salary and allowances

will go into their wives'' bank account on the first day of each month, according

    to a MetroTV report.

The new policy is welcomed by married male public servants as they feel it

will enable their wives to manage their salary in the interest of the family.
