Global hotel chain Hyatt has unveiled a new program which will see it revamp its menus around the world to focus on sustainability.

The chain, which operates in some 45 countries around the world, has followed in the footsteps of rival Sheraton in launching a healthy eating program, which it says will be good for its guests, its hotels' communities and the planet.

New options will include healthy food such as gluten-free and vegetarian options, organic produce, alongside a drive to reduce additives and sodium in food.

Hyatt will also source sustainable food across all of its hotels and will serve at least five local ingredients on menus, actively supporting farmers' markets and other community institutions.

In March, Sheraton launched a more colorful program designed to get guests thinking about what's on their plates by promising a healthy eating program based on appearance.

Building on the oft-repeated adage that colorful food ensures a healthy mix, the 'Color Your Plate' initiative encourages guests to add three colors of vegetables to plates.
