GEORGE TOWN, April 30 (Bernama) -- ICI Dulux (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd will place
500 recycling bins along Gurney Drive here.
The bins will be placed at every 100 steps with the first 50 bins launched
today.
Of the 50 bins, 40 are meant for papers, aluminium and plastic, and the rest
for solid waste such as paint cans.
Speaking to reporters at the launch of the event, ICI Dulux managing
director Goh Cheok Weng said the effort was aimed at raising public awareness in
conjunction with the 3R (recycle, reuse, reduce) programme, especially on
disposing empty paint cans.
He said the bins were environmentally friendly and could save electricity
for they were solar powered contributed from LED lights.
The bins for paint cans could accommodate five cans of five litre capacity.
More than 20,000 litres of unused or leftover paint was collected in similar
campaigns in Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Pahang and Penang.
The programme is conducted by ICI Dulux with the cooperation of Tye Wei
Marketing Sdn Bhd, the state government and the Penang Municipal Council.
