KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 (Bernama) - All district police chiefs have been urged
to step up the confidence building programme to enhance public confidence in the
police force.
Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the programme
introduced in 2009 is to help crime victims mentally and physically thus help
solve crimes.
"Under the programme, police officers will go to homes of victims to
investigate until the cases are brought to court," he said after a special
briefing to enhance crime prevention for state and district police chiefs at
General Operations Force, Central Brigade here today.
He hopes that via the programme, public confidence in the police force will
be increased while the victims can voice their views on how crimes can be
addressed.

Other matters discussed was the positive view on police (PDRM) efforts in
achieving six National Key Result Areas (NKRA) by an independent panel of police
officers from United Kingdom, United States and Hong Kong two weeks ago.
"This view was expressed after seeing PDRM efforts in assisting the
government to reduce the crime rate."
Ismail said that the Global Peace Index (GPI) also shows that Malaysia is
still a safe country.
