India and Pakistan ease visa process for each other

The foreign ministers of Pakistan and India signed an agreement on Saturday to make travel between the two countries easier. The new measures concern mainly children, the elderly and businessmen.

The tough visa conditions between the two countries will be eased after the governments of both countries signed an agreement to make cross-border travel easier. The new pact includes several types of visa including a tourist visa, a first between the two nations.

According to local media, with the new pact, travelers under 12 and over 65 will be able to get a tourist visa upon arrival. Businessmen will be eligible for multiple-entry visas in the hope to boost commercial relations between the two countries.

In the past, Pakistani travelers were restricted to particular cities in India and businessmen had to report to the local police in the evenings.

It is not clear when the new measures will go into effect.
