iRobot Endows STEM Professionals with Create 2 Robot

Premier consumer electronic gadget firm, iRobot Corporation (IRBT), has reinforced its robotics business by modernizing its existing STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Outreach Program. The company has recently launched Create 2, a new pre-assembled robot platform. The new platform, based on iRobot’s Roomba robot line, would help equip the global education system with the company’s robot-based programming expertise.

New Inventions

Being a global robotics leader, iRobot seeks to enhance the interests of young students in STEM-related professions. The company often launches new types of robots aiming at accomplishing such social welfare purposes.

iRobots’ Create 2 is based on its Roomba robot model. Young students, academic developers or educators are able to experience premium robotic programs through iRobot’s Roomba robots.

Now, along with Create 2, the company has also launched few online resources such as faceplate drilling template, specialized academic projects and 3D printable files. The users would be able to conveniently operate iRobot’s Create robot with the help of the newly introduced educational projects. The price of Create would be similar to that of Roomba, but the former will be more user-friendly.

iRobot’s Create 2 robot platform fortifies its existing STEM program. Create 2, a mobile preassembled robot built on Roomba 600 series of the company, will help developers, students and educators to program sounds and movements or add further electronic features.

iRobot has already initiated the sale of its new Create 2 robot from Dec 10, 2014 in the U.S. The model comes at a basic offer price of $199.99.

Benefits of the Invention

Launch of Roomba-based Create 2 and related online resources support iRobot’s motto of corporate social responsibility. The new innovations are expected to augment the customer base and brand status of the company. The inventions would not only equip the global educational community with advanced robot-based programming experience but also promote STEM-based academics among the youth.

Moving Forward

iRobot designs and manufactures robots for both domestic and commercial usage. The household mobile robots of the company, such as Roomba and Scooba, help in achieving specialized functions such as floor scrubbing and vacuum cleaning. Also, the military robots invented by iRobot aid in increasing efficiency of the defensive activities. The product offerings of the company are non-imitable, unique and highly differentiated. The new invention, thus, would improve iRobot’s revenues and margins in the upcoming quarters.

With a market capitalization of $1.01 billion, iRobot currently sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy). Some other stocks worth considering in the industry include Activision Blizzard, Inc. (ATVI), Black Diamond, Inc. (BDE) and ScanSource, Inc. (SCSC). While Black Diamond sports a Zacks Rank similar to iRobot, both Activision Blizzard and ScanSource carry a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
