Isis a terrorist organisation, not an Islamic group, says deputy home minister

No religion, even Islam, can accept what Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (Isis) is doing, says a minister, condemning the jihadist group that is now terrorising the Middle East.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said Isis was a "terrorist" organisation that was inhumane.

"Isis is not an Islamic group," he said, adding that no religion could accept what Isis is doing.

"This is an extreme group. Many governments in the world have banned the organisation.

"The Malaysian police are working overtime to curb their activities in the country from all angles.

"We will not allow them any chance to train their recruits here," he said today at Universiti Sains Malaysia after launching a seminar on the dangers of using ketum.

Wan Junaidi said his ministry and the police were identifying those sympathetic to its cause.

On the reason certain people could be attracted to join Isis, he said, was to take the easy road in life.

"The easy road to get rich is corruption. The easy road to heaven is to join groups such as Isis and die as a martyr.

"The word jihad, which refers to defending the religion and the ummah, should not be used at all (by Isis).

"Allah does not condone violence."

Wisma Putra has announced that Putrajaya considered Isis a terrorist organisation and did not condone any of its activities, adding that police had been weeding out members of the group as well as sympathisers.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in a statement yesterday condemned the Islamic state militants in Iraq and Syria for their crimes committed in the name of Islam.

He called for international action to stop further the violence by the group, which he said was carrying acts that were against the teachings of Prophet Muhammad and Islamic law that prized the protection of life.

Najib had previously said Umno members should emulate Isis as their spirit of defying vastly superior odds was admirable.

It was also reported yesterday that even Malaysian women are believed to have joined Isis to offer Jihad Al-Nikah or sexual jihad to fighters for the establishment of Islamic rule.

Between January and June this year, Malaysian police arrested 19 people including two women for involvement in militant activities.

Police also revealed that at least 50 Malaysians are currently believed to be in Syria, fighting alongside Isis forces. – August 28, 2014.
