Jena Malone joins "Batman v Superman"

22 Oct – Staying true to its comic origins, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" has cast a female to play the part of Robin.

Jena Malone has reportedly joined the superhero action movie as the ever trusty sidekick of the Caped Crusader himself, The Independent reports.

This has set tongues wagging as the character of Robin in Batman movies is usually played by a male. However, this comes as no surprise as director Zack Synder is said to be following the comic the movie is based on very closely, down to Batman's sidekick Carrie Kelley.

Though there are plenty who are in full support of Malone as Robin, there are some who are very much against the idea. Not entirely because of the gender switch, but largely due to the fact that they do not deem Carrie Kelley iconic enough to be worthy of the title. It is argued that Kelley has the least amount of appearance as Robin, compared to other Robins such as Dick Grayson, Damian Wayne and Stephanie Brown.

Despite all the grumbling, Malone is still happy for the role. Her involvement in the movie was accidentally spilled by an extra to NBC news affiliate WILX-10 recently, her Instagram post showing off her new red locks further strengthening the speculation. However, according to TIME, the extra who leaked the information might now be facing a USD 5 million fine, as he has signed a non-disclosure agreement to Warner Bros.

While the movie will only be released in 2016, Malone can be seen on the silver screen next in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1", coming out this 20 November 2014.
