Jessica Chastain remedied the stressful scenes she shot for her latest film by watching videos of dogs.
The actress has been lauded for her portrayal of a tough CIA agent in Zero Dark Thirty, which is about the capture of Osama bin Laden. She has been nominated for this year's best actress Oscar and picked up the Golden Globe Award in the same category last weekend.
The movie was directed by Kathryn Bigelow and both she and Jessica had to find ways to deal with the more intense scenes.
"Kathryn and I would send each other a video of a dog being rescued. As we were filming these very intense interrogation scenes, I'd get an email from her about a dog that was found in a dumpster and cleaned up to find a new home," Jessica laughed to Stylist magazine. "We tried to remind ourselves that there is joy and love in the world."
The film follows the ten-year hunt for bin Laden following the September 11 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City.
Although the subject matter was tough, Jessica was thrilled with work with Kathryn and impressed with how she handled herself on set.
"Kathryn’s amazing,” the actress gushed. “She’s very much the captain of the ship, but she also has great compassion and respect for all parties involved. You never see her yell at anyone, or treat anyone without dignity."
Jessica was also nominated for an Oscar last year for her turn in The Help and was praised for her role in The Tree of Life, alongside Brad Pitt. Things are going so well for the star she couldn't think of anything which is missing her life when asked.
"Right now I just feel so lucky with everything, I don’t really feel like I need to accomplish something else,” she said. “Maybe my [New Year's] resolution would be to take a vacation."
