Jho Low again denies behind blog attacks, legal team to contact Tong’s lawyers

Low Taek Jho has once again denied being part of attacks by an anonymous blogger against Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Datuk Seri Nazir Razak and The Edge publisher Datuk Tong Kooi Ong, saying that it was "false and defamatory".

A spokesman for the businessman said his lawyers will get in touch with Tong's legal team after being served a notice two days ago to stop "fabricating malicious lies" about The Edge Media Group.

"In response to the outlandish and false assertions published by The Edge Malaysia, The Malaysian Insider, and the subsequent media statement published by Datuk Tong Kooi Ong, it is false and defamatory to assert that Mr. Low is behind the anonymous blogs.

"With regard to reports of a legal demand, Mr. Low’s lawyers will address this matter directly with Datuk Tong's lawyers to confirm that the assertions are preposterous and false," said the spokesman for Low, more popularly known as Jho Low.

On Friday, Tong served a notice to Jho Low demanding that he stop "fabricating malicious lies" about him and the news publications under his control.

Tong said his lawyers had served the letter of demand, asking Jho Low to “cease and desist” from lying about The Edge, The Malaysian Insider and about himself through several blogs.

"I believe Low Taek Jho or Jho Low is the person responsible for the malicious lies and fabrications against The Edge Media Group and I through several blogs using the WordPress blogging platform," Tong said on Friday.

On Tuesday, The Edge Malaysia reported that the blogger of malaysianexpose.wordpress.com behind the attacks on Tong and The Edge Media Group was also behind similar vicious onslaughts on Dr Mahathir and banker Nazir, while running other blogs which published complimentary articles on Low.

One common thread behind the attacks appeared to be the fact that The Edge had been publishing exposes about state investment vehicle 1MDB, while Dr Mahathir had been openly critical of it, even saying it was unnecessary and should be shut.

But Jho Low denied being part of the attacks against the trio.

"This article wrongly suggests that Mr Low was somehow involved in the press attacks by an anonymous blogger on Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Datuk Seri Nazir Razak, and Datuk Dr Tong Kooi Ong.

"This is preposterous and completely false," the spokesman said in a statement to The Malaysian Insider, referring to the report "EXPOSED! Pro-Jho Low blogger behind attacks on Dr M, Nazir and Edge owner Tong".

"Mr Low respects these individuals for their professional achievements.

"Given the false and improper innuendos made against Mr Low in this report, this matter has been referred to his lawyers," the spokesman had added.

Earlier today, Nazir said he was considering a suit against the blogger, saying claims against him and his family were lies and slander. – February 8, 2015.
