MELAKA, May 5 (Bernama) - Johor and Melaka will remain as a fortress for
Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) at the coming general election.
This belief is shared by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman and
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam.
Abdul Ghani said Umno and BN still remained as a stable party that received
strong endorsement from the majority of people in Johor.
"I believe that Umno and Barisan Nasional component parties can capture more
seats in the general election," he said after ''Larian Bendera'' to mark Umno''s
66th anniversary celebration at Dataran Sungai Rambai here, today.
Some 3,000 Umno members from both states gathered at Dataran Sungai Rambai
to witness handing over of the Umno flag from the Johor menteri besar to the
melaka chief minister at 9am.

UMNO-FORTRESSS MELAKA
''Larian Bendera'' will cover 113 kilometres in Melaka before the flag is
handed to Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan in Kuala Linggi
tomorrow.
Abdul Ghani said Umno remained as a pillar of strength for BN component
parties and the government based on its credibility and relevance in fighting
for the interest of Malays and Malaysians.
Meanwhile, Mohd Ali said Melaka BN performed well at the previous general
election where Umno managed to defend its seats.
"We believe that this record will continue in the coming election. BN is
also committed in capturing seats held by the oppopsition."
He said this is based on increasing people support due to the opposition
acts to create disharmony and only giving the people lip service.
