KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 (Bernama) -- Tunku Mahkota of Johor, Tunku Ismail Idris
Sultan Ibrahim has clarified that the Johor royal family does not take any money
from the government since the time of the late Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Abu Bakar.
He said this matter could be confirmed by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Abdul
Ghani Othman or any government official.
He said this in his Twitter posting yesterday in the wake of former Perak
menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin''s criticism over reports that
the Sultan of Johor had won the bid for the WWW1 plate number by shelling out
RM520,000.
Mohammad Nizar had tweeted that the large sum of money could have been used
to assist the state''s poor Malays to buy homes.
"The money allocated to my father (Sultan Ibrahim ibni Almarhum Sultan
Iskandar) and I every month as the Sultan and Tunku Mahkota is put into Yayasan
Iskandar and Yayasan Ibrahim.
"The purpose of these foundations (Yayasan Iskandar and Yayasan Ibrahim) is
for the rakyat (people) and to assist the Johor state government," he said,
adding that he had never obtained money from the government.
"I myself, since the time I was the Raja Muda, never took one cent from the
government till this very day. It''s my rakyat''s money. So, before you open your
mouth, do your research," he said.
