SIBU, July 29 (BERNAMA) -- The Junaco Park National Service (NS) Training

Camp at the Sibi/Bintulu Road, about 30km from here, is making a splash with its

very own Olympic-standard swimming pool.

Of the 79 NS camps nationwide, it has the distinction of being the first to

have its own swimming pool.

This morning, the swimming pool was declared open by state social

development and urbanisation minister Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom.

He said Junaco Park''s future trainees could now swim in clean and safe

environment, instead of untreated water at lakes or pools.

Mawan officiated the opening ceremony, on behalf of Chief Minister Tan Sri

Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Later, he told reporters that the government hoped NS camp operators would

always strive to provide top-notch facilities for its trainees and give priority

to health and safety concerns.

"This would certainly encourage parents to send their children for such

training," he said, commending camp operator Khiu Siong Kee over his initiative

to provide the RM1.1 million swimming pool facility.

"This should be the way. I am given to understand that, in terms of

facilities, the park was now the best National Service training camp in the

country," noted Mawan.
