Kate Upton set for Sports Illustrated cover

Kate Upton is rumoured to have scooped the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover.

Appearing on the front page of the publication is one of the most sought after jobs in the fashion industry, with models including Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks, Marisa Miller and Elle Macpherson previously gracing the page.

The front page will be unveiled on The Late Show with David Letterman on Monday.

“Sources tell us Upton’s blond, all-American looks made her a top contender even though the magazine crowned Russian lingerie model Irina Shayk, the girlfriend of soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, as its cover star last year,” reports New York Post.

Kate attended a ceremony to commemorate the opening of New York Fashion Week yesterday. However, she remained coy about her chances of landing the coveted shot.

“All I can really say is that I’m in the issue,” she laughed. “Fingers crossed!”

Kate, 19, first appeared in the Swimsuit Issue last year, with her pictures landing her the Rookie of the Year title. She has also modelled for Victoria’s Secret in the past.

Other stars who might scoop the cover include Anne V and Genevieve Morton.

“There’s no clear front-runner,” an insider told the publication. “There’s a lot of talk about Kate in general. But the idea of American versus international has never been a part of the [debate]. It really comes down to the best picture wins.”

    Sports Illustrated haven’t commented.
