KUALA LUMPUR, 22 Jun — Datuk M. Kayveas menggesa Gerakan untuk melatih pemimpin tertingginya bagi menawan semula Pulau Pinang daripada DAP, berbanding cuba merebut kerusi di Malaysia, mendakwa parti itu tidak lagi begitu aktif sejak pilihan raya 2008.

Presiden Parti Progresif Penduduk (PPP) itu berkata, pemimpin Gerakan seharusnya “berkongsi” beberapa kerusi mereka dengan PPP demi “kebaikan” Barisan Nasional (BN).

“BN perlu menang. Jika tidak, seperti di Pulau Pinang, mereka tewas ... mereka mahu BN untuk terus tewas berada di setiap kawasan di seluruh negara.

“Jika mereka berfikir seperti itu, ia tindakan kejam, mereka boleh terus simpan kerusi mereka. Tapi jika mereka mahu BN menang, mereka perlu mengemukakan formulanya,” katanya dalam satu temuramah khas di sini.

Namun, tegas Ahli Parlimen Taiping ini ragu sama ada Gerakan akan menerima cadangan PPP tersebut.

“Kamu tidak menghargai kualiti saya, kamu tidak mahukan bakat saya, pengetahuan saya,” katanya.

Kayveas (gambar) turut melabelkan Presiden Gerakan, Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, sebagai “batu penghalang” kerana sengaja enggan berunding berkenaan pembahagian kerusi, menegaskan beliau tidak mengetahui peranan sebenar pemimpin berkenaan di dalam parti.

“Kamu tidak akan boleh menghubungi beliau, walau sepatah perkataan sekalipun.

“Beliau enggan bercakap. Kita perlu berbincang. Mari berkongsi formula untuk menang. Namun beliau enggan. Saya tidak tahu kenapa beliau berada di sana,” katanya.

Kedua-dua PPP dan Gerakan telah berselisih sejak perebutan kerusi Parlimen Taiping di Perak, yang merupakan “pinjaman” kepada PPP untuk pilihan raya 2004 dan 2008.

Sebagai ganti, pemimpin BN telah menyerahkan Gerakan Bukit Gantang pada 2004 dan Gerik pada 2008, kedua-duanya di Perak.

Pada 2008, Ketua Wanita Gerakan Datuk Tan Lian Hoe bertanding di Gerik dan memenangi kerusi tersebut sedangkan Kayveas tewas kepada DAP, Nga Kor Ming yang memperolehi Taiping dengan perbezaan 11,298 majoriti undi.

Sejak itu, Kayveas telah menyuarakan hasrat untuk menyerahkan kerusi Taiping kepada Gerakan namun menggesa parti itu menyerahkan kerusi lain sebagai ganti.

Namun Gerakan dan pemimpinnya, dakwa Kayveas, tidak mengendahkan perkara itu.

“Kami tidak akan berputus asa,” katanya. “ Tidak adil jika Gerakan mengekalkan semua kerusi mereka. Saya rasa Gerakan perlu menyerahkan kerusi di kawasan yang mereka tidak boleh menang 100 peratus.”

Beliau menambah, perkara ini amat penting kerana dilihat “tidak aktif sejak empat tahun lalu.”

“Itu masalahnya. Mereka tidak seaktif PPP sebanyak 5 peratus sekalipun sekarang ini. Bagaimana mereka akan berfungsi? Mereka perlu berkongsi. Lihat kepada hasilnya,” katanya.

PPP dilihat mengintai empat kerusi Parlimen dan 12 kerusi negeri, berharap untuk menambah wakilnya di Perak, di mana PPP ditubuhkan, Pulau Pinang, dan Kuala Lumpur.

Parti itu telah bertanding di Taiping dan kerusi negeri Pasir Bedamar di Perak pada 2008, namun tewas dan gagal menawan kedua-duanya.

Gerakan turut mengalami kekalahan teruk apabila terpaksa menyerahkan Pulau Pinang kepada pembangkang selepas tewas kepada DAP dan gagal mempertahankan walau satu kerusi pada pilihan raya 2008 di negeri yang dikuasainya sejak 1969 itu.
