KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1 ― The federal government’s second round of cash handouts to households earning below RM3,000 monthly is a “sincere” gift, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said today.

He was referring to the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition’s Bantuan Rakyat 1 Malaysia (BR1M) 2.0 scheme, which was recently announced in the Budget 2013.

“For us, BN, we know it’s given sincerely, same as subsidies,” the Rembau MP said in Parliament today.

He was responding to “accusations” by the federal opposition Pakatan Rakyat (PR) that the aid was a form of “bribery” and “bait for votes” ahead of the 13th general election.

Khairy (picture) said that Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim earlier today gave the “clearest” example of fishing for votes when the latter said that petrol prices would be reduced if PR came to power.
