    KIJAL TEXTILE COMPLEX TO START OPERATION NEXT MONTH

    KEMAMAN, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- The biggest textile complex in the east coast of

    the peninsula, costing RM40.7 million, in Kijal, here, is expected to start

    operation next month, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said said.

    The complex, which will be a new landmark in Bandar Baru Kijal, will house

    textile operators from the country as well as from abroad.

    "Each premises will be rented out for RM3,500 and is set to be the focal

    point for local textile wholesalers and retailers as well as from other parts of

    the country," he told reporters after inspecting the project site today.

    The complex is part of a 160ha development project, costing RM143 million,

    which includes shop houses, Mara entrepreneur complex, customs'' landing point

    and a wastewater treatment plant.

    Ahmad said the development project would create a spin-off to the local

    economy and provide thousands of job opportunities like those in Nilai Tiga,

    Negeri Sembilan and Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur.

    There would also be a district police headquarters and a hospital for the

    area soon, he said.
