KLANG, July 30 (Bernama) -- About 600 DAP grassroots leaders in Klang staged

a strong protest today against PAS'' intention to implement hudud law in

Malaysia.

Klang DAP Liaison Committee organising secretary, K.Yoga Sigamany said they

fully supported DAP national chairman Karpal Singh on the matter.

"We in DAP give our undivided support to Karpal Singh''s stance and stress

that no party within Pakatan Rakyat should enforce Islamic values in a

multi-racial society," he said at a press conference, here, today.

On July 25, Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, who is also

PAS spiritual leader, reiterated the party''s stand to fight for hudud law

implementation despite DAP''s protest.

As to the confidence expressed by PAS that hudud law would be accepted as it

only applied to Muslims, Yoga Sigamany said even though that was the case, it

would jeorpadise Malaysia''s image at the global level.

The organising committee chairman, Ivan Ho said there should not be two

systems of law in the country as Malaysia was governed by secular civil law

under the Federal Constitution.

He also remarked that many Middle East countries with more than 90 per cent

Muslim majority and Indonesia too did not practise hudud law.

"We (opposition) are all for a welfare state. PAS actually advocates a

policy of welfare state, hence PAS must differentiate between a welfare state

and hudud law state," he added.
