KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 (Bernama) -- Datuk Ahmad Phesal Talib who will be
replacing Tan Sri Ahmad Fuad Ismail as Kuala Lumpur Mayor effective July 18,
wants to continue the excellent work of his predecessor with regard to
development and services.
"This is a big, challenging task entrusted to me, and at the same I
recognise the contribution of Tan Sri Ahmad Fuad in upgrading and improving
facilities and services in the federal capital.
"I will continue with the good work, and add or improve where needed," he
said after being a guest for the "Dalam Radar'' programme of Bernama Radio24 at
Wisma Bernama, here, today.
The secretary-general of the Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing
Ministry has been appointed as the new mayor of Kuala Lumpur for a two-year
period, replacing Ahmad Fuad whose term ends on July 15.
Ahmad Phesal said he would also endeavour to realise Prime Minister Datuk
Seri Najib Tun Razak of seeing Kuala Lumpur ranked among the top 20 liveable
cities in the world with a bustling economy by 2020.
He said he would also focus on the building of affordable homes for young
people in Kuala Lumpur.
"There are not many affordable houses priced at RM200,000 to RM300,000 for
the younger generation, that some are forced to travel from Nilai, Tanjung Malim
and Rawang for work in Kuala Lumpur due to the lack of such houses here," he
said.
