As travelers in the US get ready for Labor Day weekend starting on August 31, Las Vegas features as the most popular destination while New York and San Francisco register the highest accommodations rates for the long weekend.

According to a report by travel website Trivago, Sin City is the most searched-for destination for Labor Day weekend, one of the busiest travel weekends of the year in North America.

Travelers to Las Vegas can expect a 17 percent increase in hotel rates compared to the averages registered during the month of August with an average overnight accommodation of $120.

The popular destination Las Vegas is followed by New York, which registers an average overnight accommodation of $312, and San Francisco, with an average accommodation rate of $219. New York and San Francisco are the most expensive destinations for Labor Day while Las Vegas and Orlando come as the cheapest in the website's list.

According to the list, travelers wanting to beat the crowds should head to Washington and Niagara Falls, among the less popular destinations.

The Trivago report shows prices for a standard double room calculated on the basis of one million daily price inquiries for overnight hotel stays. Trivago stores all hotel requests for each month to give an overview of hotel accommodation prices.
