    LADA WINS AWARD FROM SPAIN'S TRADE LEADERS' CLUB

    LANGKAWI, Jan 21 (Bernama) -- The Langkawi Development Authority (Lada) has

    won the 37th New Millennium International Award for Tourist, Hotel and

    Catering Industry from the Spain''s Trade Leaders Club in Madrid.

    The award was presented to Lada chief executive officer Tan Sri Khalid Ramli

    in Madrid last Thursday.

    Khalid said the award was for excellence in tourism development and

    promotion on the resort island for the year 2011.

    Langkawi was selected based on its outstanding achievements in enhancing the

    island''s social and economic development, especially in tourism industry, he

    told reporters here today.

    He attributed the success to the cooperation and continued support from the

    local community, tour operators and non-governmental organizations in spurring

    the implementation of international tourism projects and activities.
