KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 (Bernama) -- National Paralympic powerlifter Siow Lee
Chan hopes to make it to her fourth consecutive Paralympic Games by earning her
ticket to the London Paralympics in August.
Lee Chan who had been to three previous Paralympics, namely in Sydney,
Australia (2000), Athens, Greece (2004) and Beijing, China (2008) is no stranger
to powerlifting competitions and remains confident of making the cut.
After winning a bronze medal in Beijing, Lee Chan who competed in the
women''s 56kg, has been undergoing intensive training at the National Sports
Council (NSC) Gymnasium for the past three years.
"I am currently ranked sixth in the world for the women''s 56kg and 60kg
categories and that may work in my favour but the decision will be made by the
International Paralympic Committee (IPC)," she told reporters when met at the
five-day National Open Powerlifting championships in the Titiwangsa Stadium,
here today.
The 40-year-old Negeri Sembilan-born won the silver medal from the 56kg in
the championships with a lift of 90kg while Thailand''s Anon Somkhoun who cleared
95kg took the gold.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Powerlifting Association President Kamaruzaman Kadir
said Lee Chan was among a number of powerlifters identified by the association
to make the cut for the London Paralympics.
He said apart from Lee Chan, Fatimah Wagimin (67.5kg) and Sharifah Raudzah
Syed Akil (82.5kg) are the hopefuls in the women category and Mohd Shahmil
Md Saad (90kg) from the men''s category.
Kamaruzaman said the IPC would meet by end of the month to decide on the 10
qualifying spots for the men and eight for the women plus two wildcard entries
in each category.
Malaysia''s best ever performance in the Paralympics was at the 1992
Barcelona Paralympics when Cheok Kon Fatt won a silver medal from the men''s 52kg
category.
