PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) elected six office--bearers at their bi--annual elections held in conjunction with its annual general meeting (AGM) on Thursday.
Datuk Mohd Ilyas Zainol Abidin, Datuk Mohammed Shaheen Shah Mohd Sidek, Christina Toh, Kamaruddin Baharin, Cheah Swee Hee and Lim Cheong Sean garnered the most votes from 200 members and 13 State Chapter chairmen.
Mohd Ilyas was elected president for the sixth term while Mohammed Shaheen, Toh and Kamaruddin were voted as vice presidents.
Cheah was appointed honorary secretary--general and Lim the honorary treasurer--general. The MAH State Chapter members had previously elected their chairpersons at their own AGMs held earlier this year.
Formed in 1974 by a group of concerned and dedicated hoteliers, MAH was established to form a more dynamic hospitality industry, and build a highly skilled, innovative and disciplined workforce as well as enhance the efficiency of the industry.
As the official national network for the industry, MAH represents almost 600 hotels nationwide which supply a total of 113,567 rooms, about 66 per cent of total rooms available as guest accommodation in Malaysia.
Through its 13 chapters, MAH acts as a voice of the industry, and works to promote, protect, represent and advance its members' interests.
