MAIWP BEARS LEGAL COST FOR THREE RESPONDENTS IN ANWAR IBRAHIM'S QAZAF CASE

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 28 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territory Islamic Religious

Council (MAIWP) is paying the legal cost for three respondents named in the

qazaf claim by Permatang Pauh member of parliament Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

MAIWP chief executive officer Dr Muhammad Yamin Ismail said the cost is

being borne because the three, namely Minister in the Prime Minister''s

Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, Director of the Federal Territory

Religious Department Datuk Che Mat Che Ali and Federal Territory Syarie Chief

Prosecutor Shamsuddin Hussain were civil servants.

"Thus, it is the responsibility of MAIWP, as the authority on Islamic

religion, to bear the cost of defending any legal action against them," he said

    in a statement, here today.

He said that MAIWP had a special allocation from the government grant to pay

for their legal cost in the case from 1993 to 2011, with the amount received

    amounting to RM11 million including RM700,000 in 2010 and RM500,000 in 2011.

"The action brought by the member of parliament for Permatang Pauh is the

main cause for the three respondents being dragged in the dispute whereas the

allegation by the member of parliament concerned is totally unfounded as decided

by the Syariah High Court," he said.

Dr Muhammad Yamin made the comment when responding to the report in the

Harakah that claimed Jamil Khir had misappropriated zakat funds to pay for his

    legal cost in the case.

Patutlah orang BN berani tuduh parti pembangkang macam2 sebab kalau kena saman - bukan mereka yang bayar - tetapi mereka gunakan duit rakyat untuk bayar saman. Ini salahguna kuasa...!!!

government grant is rakyat money. so rakyat money is used to pay for their legal fees. Is it in their personal capacity they are named as respondents?

Yes, and they need a vacation too to relieve work stress and to uphold and improve productivity. Provide a set of good wheels since they need to commute and look presentable at the same time. Put in all the add-ons and at the end of the day like some charitable organizations only a small portion go for the intended purpose. So what? The former head of the national kidney foundation of a neighbouring country was drawing a salary close to RM 1.5 million per annum until the authorities found out and sent him to jail while purging most of the board.

Like that, better we help the needy directly and get rid of all the parasitic "middlemen". Go and take a closer look at how funds are managed in sports associations and bodies too - purportedly for altruistic reasons. Bollocks !!

Isn't it the norm for any department to pay off legal fees of its officers incurred while carrying out their duties? The money was replaced after getting the special grant from the government, (may take sometime) so what's all the noise? Even with a PR prime minister, they would do the same thing.

Kalau tindakan tidak diambil ianya hanya memaparkan betapa kejinya orang UMNO.Bermacam-macam alasan diguna asalkan dapat melindungi pemimpin mereka .Yang salah jadi betul, yang haram jadi halal ! Yang menderita adalah rakyat biasa !
