MALAYSIA HAS ALWAYS BEEN BEACON OF CHARITY - ROSMAH

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has always been a beacon of

charity for the lesser fortunate and underprivileged, without distinction of

race, colour or creed, said the prime minister''s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

"In us, lies the ability to reach out to another, regardless of their

background, in celebrating good times and sharing bad moments.

"The philosophy of 1Malaysia Charity has been founded on the acceptance of

people of all cultural and ethnic backgrounds, irrespective of colour, creed,

religion or race," she said in her speech before launching the opening ceremony

of 1Malaysia Grand Charity Concert at Menara PGRM, Cheras here today.

She said the initiatives undertaken by the government in supporting and

caring for these groups of people also could be demonstrated through this

    charity programme.

The concert was initiated by Federation of Lim Association executive advisor

Tan Sri Lim Soon Peng, in collaboration with eight Chinese associations.

Besides Malaysian performers, a team of 150 people from China also performed

    at the concert.

Rosmah hoped the concert would serve to further enhance Malaysia-China

    relations.
