SEPANG, April 25 (Bernama) -- Latvia is keen to take the bilateral
cooperation with Malaysia to greater heights through political and economic
dialogue, its Foreign Affairs Minister Edgars Rinkevics said.
He said Malaysia has an enormous economic potential and that Latvia was
looking forward to expanding the scope of economic cooperation between both
countries.
"(I''ve been) only a couple of hours in Malaysia; I''m impressed. We are very
much looking forward to continuing the political and economic dialogue between
Latvia and Malaysia," he told Bernama here today.
Rinkevics, who arrived here today for a two-day visit, attended a high-tea
hosted by Deputy Foreign Minister Senator A. Kohilan Pillay on behalf of
Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman.
Rinkevics said during the meeting with Kohilan, they both discussed
outstanding issues concerning the European Union and Malaysia.

This is the first-high level visit from a Latvian official to Malaysia.
Rinkevics is scheduled to call on International Trade and Industry Minister
Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed tomorrow and later attend a business matching
programme between Latvian and Malaysian business leaders at the Malaysia
External Trade Development Cooperation''s (Matrade) exhibition and convention
centre.
He will then fly to Brunei to attend the European Union-Asean Foreign
Ministers'' Meeting where leaders are expected to discuss plans for cooperation
between both regions for the year 2013 to 2017.
The Latvian Foreign Minister is on a working visit to Southeast Asia from
today until May 2 which also covers Indonesia and Singapore.
