MALAYSIA A GREAT PLACE TO BUILD CAREER, SAYS TALENTCORP

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is a great place to build a

career because many companies in highly-competitively industries, such as oil

and gas, electronics and palm oil, are based here.

Talent Corp Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp) chief executive officer, Johan Mahmood

Merican, said the companies, local and international, were constantly looking

    for more talents and workforce.

"The major companies are running to us to get talents.

"We''re collaborating with leading key employers and they provide us the

inputs," Johan told reporters at the Moving Forward Forum organised by

    TalentCorp here today.

He said the Economic Transformation Programme has spurred the need for more

experts and workforce in finance, business services, engineering, healthcare,

telecommunications and information and communication industries.

"The need is particularly strong in these areas and TalentCorp''s focus would

be where there''s demand," he said.

Johan said TalentCorp''s priority this year was Malaysians in Malaysia and in

areas such as career awareness, structured internship, upskilling, leadership

and labour market policies and practices.

"We would continue to engage the private sector in talent supply segment

because they''re our major stakeholders. We want to reduce the talent

    miss-match," he said.

On engaging talents abroad, Johan said, TalentCorp was encouraged that not

only was there an increase in the number of Malaysian talent coming back but

they were also of higher quality.

"They came back to hold positions as chief executive officers and high

management positions in multinational corporations," he said.

He said the focus was not only to bring Malaysian experts back but to

    leverage on their network.

"They still can contribute to the country''s growth from overseas.

"For example, we have London-based economics professors as consultants for

    economic policies.

"During TalentCorp-Silicon Valley Nexus workshop last year, Malaysian

technopreneurs based in Silicon Valley shared their expertise and link up 50

Silicon Valley professionals with Malaysian investment opportunities.

"They too, are keen to contribute," he said.

Meanwhile, two new websites were launched at the forum -- TalentCorp''s

corporate website and the talent engagement portal MyWorkLife. -- BERNAMA
