Manchester City star Tevez handed six-month driving ban

Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has received a six-month driving ban after failing to respond to letters warning him that his car had been clocked speeding.

The Argentine was banned after Manchester Magistrates’ Court heard he had failed to understand the word 'constabulary' on official letters from the police.

In addition to the ban, Tevez received fines and costs of £1,540, though the 28-year-old did not attend the hearing in person and denied driving his car when it was caught speeding.

However, he did plead guilty to two counts of failing to furnish information which relate to incidents in which his car was caught speeding, and admitted to not having a proper UK driving licence.

The court heard he received and acknowledged letters from the police regarding the offences but failed to respond because he did not recognise the word 'constabulary'.

This is not the first time Tevez has courted controversy, after leaving England midway through last season to spend six months in his native Argentina playing golf following a public row with boss Roberto Mancini.

The forward has scored 10 goals in 29 appearances for Manchester City this season.
