    Mapex 2012 welcomes foreign entrants

PETALING JAYA (Feb 10): The first national-level Malaysian Property Exposition for 2012 (Mapex) organised by the Real Estate and Housing Developers Association (Rehda) has been aptly themed "Home and Abroad" as for the first time, foreign property developers will also showcase their projects to the Malaysian public.

The foreign developers exhibiting at Mapex 2012, to be held next month, include those from Australia, the UK and the Philippines.

Mapex organising committee chairman Datuk Ng Sieng Liong told a press conference on Thursday that Century Properties Inc from the Philippines and Knight Knox International from the UK have confirmed their participation, and the organisers are in the final stages of securing the attendance of three other foreign developers from the Philippines, UK and Australia.

NK Tong, Rehda Federal Territory branch chairman, said despite a more cautious consumer market, developers are optimistic that the underlying demand for housing remains strong.

"By organising Mapex, Redha aims to provide the right platform for industry players to showcase and market their projects as well as to facilitate house buyers' purchases," he said.

Rehda expects sales of between RM50 million and RM100 million during the entire event, he added.

About 85% of the booths have been taken up by developers such as Sime Darby Property Sdn Bhd, S P Setia Bhd, Mah Sing Group Bhd, Berjaya Land Bhd, Lebar Daun Development Sdn Bhd, I&P Group Sdn Bhd, Naza TTDI Sdn Bhd, Malton Bhd, IJM Properties Sdn Bhd and Seri Pajam Development Sdn Bhd.

The participating developers will showcase developments, both under construction and completed, spread over Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Malacca, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang and Perak.

Mapex 2012 will be held from March 2 to 4 at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre. This will be the 13th year Mapex has been organised, with the national-level Mapex held twice a year featuring properties in the Klang Valley, while Mapex in other states are held twice or three times a year.
