MAPIM INITIATES BUILDING OF CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IN GAZA

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Islamic Organisations

Consultative Council (MAPIM) has taken the initiative to build a children''s

hospital in Gaza with an initial contribution of USD$60,000 (RM180,00).

Its secretary-general Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid who joined the Second Ramadan

Mission to Gaza (RADIG2) recently, said Malaysians who wished to contribute to

the building of the hospital, could do so through the MAPIM GAZA FUND (BIMB

08013010075820).

"We hope Malaysians will donate to the hospital building fund to help the

Palestinians, especially the children, lead a better life," he said at the Kuala

Lumpur International Airport after returning from the mission yesterday.

National astronaut Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor who had also joined the

33-member delegation on the mission, said the initial contribution was handed

over to the Palestine Health Minister whom they met in Gaza.

He said he saw for himself the acute shortage of medical specialists,

doctors, hospital beds, operating theatres and medicines in Gaza, and many of

the women and children were badly in need of proper health care.
