BANGKOK, June 22 (Bernama) –- The Red Shirt supporters have planned a mass
rally in this capital on Sunday, in a move to send a signal to the alleged
''elite'' group not to overthrow the current, democratically-elected government.
The United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) leader Tida
Tawornseth said the date was chosen to mark the 80th anniversary of the 1932
revolution which brought an end to Thailand''s absolute monarchy, and the
beginning of constitutional monarchy.
The rally will be held at the Democracy Monument in Ratchadamneon Avenue.
Another UDD leader, Jatuporn Prompan, has claimed that some of the country''s
independent institutions had been used to "shake" the present government.
